MERMAC THEN:
Mermac Construction Ltd. was founded in 1978 by Merle Derochie (Mer) and Jim MacQuarrie (Mac) as a subsidiary of Park Derochie Ltd. Gordon Robinson joined the company in 1979, and George Whalen in 1980 and both became partners. Merle pursued other endeavours and decided to leave the company and when the economy collapsed in the early 1980’s George was bought out. Mermac Construction weathered the economic storm by calling on industrial engineering, design, and construction companies such as Fluor, PCL Braun Siemens, Fish International, Colt Engineering and Underwood McClellan. Also, Jim had contacts from when he was a Manager at Stearns Rogers. Early work included union projects at Ram River, Shell Scotford Refinery, Novacor Chemicals in Joffre, and Petro Canada in Edmonton. Later, when areas of the construction industry went non-union, Mermac Construction secured projects at Union Carbide in Prentiss, Cominco in Fernie and Cold Lake. Kevin Robinson was hired in 1988 and he supervised the work at Fernie, Joffre, and Petro Canada. The company started doing work for the Alberta Wheat Pool at the Bean plant at Bow Island and then another Bean Plant at Taber. New environmental regulations led to work including chemical storage buildings at Olds, Taber, Iron Springs, Foremost, and Three Hills, and also work at Bieseker for a Medical Waste Plant and Ryley for a Chemical Storage Building for NewAlta.
Gordon became sole owner of Mermac Construction from 1992-2008, and was able to focus on commercial and industrial buildings in Calgary, Airdrie, and Rockyview County areas. Gordon expanded the types of buildings provided to include heavy equipment service buildings, trucking and transportation facilities, retail and industrial multi-tenant condos, restaurants, fabrication, food processing, and others; many of which can be seen on this website.
Mermac Construction has continued to grow and thrive in a dynamic industry that is ever changing and Mermac has proven successful in all economic climates viagra til kvinder uden recept.
